When we announced the return of F.I.G.H.T back in February, we spoke of our desire to crown a champion upon our return. This is something that has never been done in the history of the company, mainly because up until now, we did not have a desire to crown a traditional wrestling champion. Our original goal was to run our promotion in a seasonal-type format, where an athlete's win-loss record would determine eligibility into a year-end tournament to crown a champion for each season. This time around, there is one thing that is clear: A champion WILL be crowned.
Instead of waiting until the end of the year, we plan to hold a tournament to crown the very first F.I.G.H.T Champion on our return event. 8 of the top wrestlers in the area will be entered into a tournament to determine our promotions first champion. This will be a very unique tournament for 3 reasons: the F.I.G.H.Ters showcase matches.
In the first round, the competitors will compete in traditional wrestling matches. The winners of those matches will go on to compete in the semifinals, where things get interesting. The semifinal round will consist of our grappler and high flyer showcase matches. If you have not been to one of our events to see our showcase matches, we will provide an explanation of all 3 in the coming weeks.
The athletes from the two showcase matches will compete in a Grapplers showcase. What is a Grapplers showcase you ask? A grapplers showcase is basically MMA meets Pro Wrestling with no disqualifications. A match must end in a pinfall, submission, or knockout and there are NO ROPE BREAKS. The winner will be declared the very first F.I.G.H.T Pro Champion.
"The F.I.G.H.T Pro Champion will demonstrate his abilities as the best professional wrestler on the roster. The showcase matches throughout the tournament are designed to showcase an athlete's ability to perform in different environments and adapt to change," said F.I.G.H.T Co-Founder James Noland. "The winner of this championship will be the most complete performer in this area, hands down. "
Tournament participants will begin to be announced on May 9th. 1st round matchups will be announced on May 18th. Be sure to keep up to date on the latest developments regarding F.I.G.H.T by following us on social media at:
